After graduating the photography academy Johan has mainly focused on the art of moving images. He practiced still photography for own work, fine-art, and for color study, lighting and composition testing. Since 2023 Johan photographs staged commissioned work. He shoots both on film and digitally and exclusively uses continuous light and fixed focal length lenses.

In collaboration with Michel Mölder Johan's first art series: 'Sunshine Royale Motel' was shown to the public on their exhibition in Amsterdam.
